Meet Tofu, a handsome white kitty who was part of an overcrowded cat situation with owners no longer able to care for their kitties. Tofu and a few housemates made their way to Second Chance. Tofu's housemates have been adopted white Tofu was in foster care receiving some extra TLC but now he is ready for a home of his own.
Tofu is one of the sweetest, gentlest cats his foster Mom has ever met. Tofu yearns to be loved, enjoying pets and being held. Tofu eagerly wants a lap or chest to lay on. He is so flexible, at times his foster mom thinks he has jello for bones. This flexibility comes in handy when he decides to flop on her lap and just hang. He truly cannot get enough attention and is eager for affection at all times. He also likes to nuzzle her face and give kisses. Tofu's passion is springs, chasing them wildly and he also appreciates a wand toy. Tofu is not picky about food but he especially appreciates wet food and for a treat, Churu.
Tofu has an elevated third eyelid (symblepharon) of his right eye. He contracted herpes in his eyes (very common with cats) in the birth canal likely when he was born. Left untreated it created some ulcers in his eyes, which in turn created scar tissue. The scar tissue in his right eye prevents the third eyelid from fully retreating. The eyelid can go higher but now lower. The ulcers also affected his cornea. He has vision in his right eye but it's limited. As a result of the issue with herpes, his eyes tear chronically. To treat this, he receives gel-like eye drops (found at grocery stores and pharmacies) several times a day to help with comfort after a warm washcloth is used to keep his eyes clean. No set schedule which provides flexibility. Tofu also receives Lysine gel in his wet food for autoimmune support. If Tofu were to have a herpes flare up in the future he might need a round of anti-viral medication. Herpes is not cured, it's maintained. His eye issues have not prevented him from leading a normal cat life; running, jumping, playing, eating, loving.
Tofu is so worth the little extra care he needs. Tofu's eye routine takes no more than a minute or 2 several times day. It's often accomplished while sitting with his foster Mom while she watches tv or reads. While Tofu isn't necessarily a fan of the eye treatment, he is cooperative and still wants loving afterwards. To say he is affectionate is an understatement.
Tony would be great for any type of adopter; single, couple or family. Ideally, he would be in a home where his adopters are there a lot since he loves to be near people. He is a great couch companion. Tofu could also be part of a friendly, playful cat household. He isn't looking for a cuddle buddy but might enjoy a cat to play with.
With an approved application, a visit can be arranged in his foster home.
Tofu has been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Tofu has an approximate birthdate of 04-02-2023. His adoption fee is $95.
