Tennessee is a gentle soul who has already endured more than any cat should have to experience.

He is a survivor of a severe hoarding situation and was recently featured on WSYR as part of a story highlighting the incredible cats who made it out of unimaginable conditions and are now getting their second chance at life. Tennessee is one of those cats — one of the lucky ones who made it to safety and is now learning what it means to be cared for and loved.

At 1.5 years old, Tennessee is still young, but he carries himself with a quiet, thoughtful presence. When he first meets new people, he can be a little shy. Given what he has been through, that is completely understandable. But give him a little time, a little patience, and a little kindness, and you will begin to see his true personality emerge.

And that personality is incredibly sweet.

Once he feels safe, Tennessee becomes an affectionate companion who enjoys attention and being close to his people. He is the kind of cat who forms meaningful bonds and blossoms in a calm, loving environment.

Tennessee also has a healed tail injury that causes his tail to lay flat across his back. It does not bother him at all and does not impact his ability to move, play, or enjoy life. If anything, it simply adds a little extra character and charm to an already special boy.

He does well with other cats, dogs, and respectful children, making him a great fit for many homes. What he needs most is a family who will give him the patience and love he needs to continue building confidence and fully embrace his new life.

After everything he has been through, Tennessee is ready for a home where he can feel safe, loved, and secure — a place where the hard part is behind him for good.

If You’re Thinking About Adopting Me, I Think You Should Know

I might be a little shy when we first meet, but I promise I have so much love to give once I feel safe. I’ve been through a lot, so I just need a little time to understand that everything is okay now. When I do, I really enjoy being close to my people and getting pets. My tail might look a little different, but it doesn’t bother me at all — it’s just part of who I am. If you can be patient with me, I will show you just how sweet I can be.

Important Adoption Information and Next Steps:

All animals adopted through the Oswego County SPCA (OCAWL) are:
Spayed or neutered
Up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations
Microchipped prior to adoption
Cats are FeLV/FIV tested, and dogs are heartworm tested (if age-appropriate).
Our animals are cared for in loving foster homes — they are not housed in a shelter environment.
We review all applications thoroughly to ensure the best match for both animal and adopter.
Our adoption fees help cover the cost of veterinary care, food, and rescue operations so we can continue saving animals throughout Oswego County.

To apply to adopt, please visit www.oswegocountyspca.org and complete our adoption application.

After Submitting Your Application:
Please make sure you have notified your veterinarian that we will be calling and that it is okay to speak with us. If you do not currently have a vet, please determine which one you will be using and set up care in advance so we can confirm your new pet will receive medical attention when needed.

For Pets Already in the Home:
Because the number of homeless animals in our area is so large, we adopt only to homes where current pets are spayed or neutered, with documented medical exceptions. We also require that all resident pets be up to date on their vaccinations to help ensure that everyone — both new and existing family members — stays healthy and safe.

Keep in Mind:
We are 100 percent foster-based and 100 percent volunteer-operated, from the top down. Our team works hard to get animals into their forever homes as quickly as possible. Please be patient with us — but if you do not hear back within a few days, feel free to message us on our Facebook page to confirm your application went through.
